The renovation project of Café Ursula has been decided to proceed with a new building. The old building, which had reached the end of its technical life, had accumulated significant repair debts and contained no structural elements worth preserving.
The design proposal by Avarrus Arkkitehdit Oy, which won the architecture competition held in spring 2024, envisions a building that will be slightly larger than the current one, but will respect the original shapes and fit harmoniously with the delicate park and sea landscape.
The current Café Ursula will remain open to customers until the fall of 2026, at which point construction is expected to begin. The new Café Ursula is planned to open on 1st of May 2027.
On March 4, 2024, Tradeka-Yhtiöt Oy purchased two-thirds of the shares in the iconic café-restaurant located in Helsinki’s Kaivopuisto. Kansan Sivistysrahasto sr continues as the owner of one-third of the shares. This restructuring strengthens Ursula’s financial base and enables the construction of a new café and restaurant building to replace the existing one.
As the new owner, Tradeka has committed to continuing to donate part of its proceeds to charitable activities.
